The best so far
Tastefully modernised old building and our room was fantastic. Quiet location in pretty fishing village. The staff went out of their way to cater for my dietary needs - gluten free food - and every meal was superb. Can't praise Casale Villarena or its wonderful friendly & helpful staff enough. A truly memorable holiday.Janice H.
We stayed the first night at their apartment at the beach as there was no room at the main house (this was pre-arranged), which was nice, went to the house for breakfast and were able to move into our room straight away. This is an amazing place, beautiful, charming, old building, with rooms sympathetically modernised. Mariateresa is extremely helpful, speaks excellent English, seems to manage to be everywhere all the time and sorts out your queries almost before you have asked them! Guglielmo (the owner) is a good host and one night gave a few of us a tour of his wine cellar, which is directly underneath the village church. The food in the restaurant is fantastic (we regretted eating one night at the beach), and much of it comes from their own farm. Home made limoncello divine. We were only there for two days (sadly), did a day trip one day to Positano (car) and got a boat to Amalfi and back. Glad we did it, but equally glad to get back to the tranquillity of Casale Villarena and Nerano. The second day we just stayed by the pool and relaxed in the gardens. How sweet it is to do nothing! (this is the name of the restaurant, Dolce Far Niente). There is a wifi in the bar/restaurant and in a special room laid out for the purpose, which we found very useful. We spent 2 weeks touring around Italy, but this was the only place we felt really sorry to leave.Julia
This must be "heaven"
The Amalfi coast, excursions to Capri, Positano, Pompeii ,Vesuvius. Forget the car, waste of money. This was holiday! Even our children learnt to speak German and English with new friends from Norway and Germany! Don't be afraid, ask Guglielmo , the great boss , from day 1, to arrange everything. You will enjoy trips with the boat, and privat busses . They care to please you . The boss and lovely Mariateresa, and friendly Antonio, make everybody happy. You'll find new friends at BBQ , pizza eve's and test winery meal. best place to be. We used restaurant facility more than we thought. I disagree with remarks from crkLondon: remarks about breakfast? They forget to tell you about best kitchen and excellent wines(Tauri and Lachrima de Christ). Maybe the contra's had exaggerated to stay to long in the sun. Thank you Staff!Paul Vuylsteke
Guglielmo e Mariateresa sono the best!!Fiamma Montezemolo
Lovely place - great hospitality
Relaxed place with comfortable accommodation and an excellent restaurant. We ate out a couple of times but the best meals by far were at Villarena. Guglielmo organises welcome nights, BBQs and pizza nights - fantastic views over the Bay of Salerno from the terrace. Also boat trips and trips to Vesuvius and Pompeii - these were a real highlight. Bit of a trek down to the beach but good exercise. Excellent hospitality from Guglielmo and his team including Mariateresa and Antonio. A great place to go back to.Michael Roe
Amazing place - where do I start!?
My sister picked this place for my family of four (two teens) to meet up with her and her husband for a week on the Amalfi coast. We only planned to stay a few days. If I'd known how amazing the place and people were, we'd have only stayed here. Our rooms were beautiful, the views were spectacular, the food was fresh and amazing. We took a cooking class there together and ate our own creation! Gugliermo arranged for a day long trip to Capri with just the six of us on a boat with the most wonderful captain Mario (ask for him!). He even helped up line up a great tour guide for Pompeii days after we left Nerano. Mariateresa is a dear. We left feeling like family. They can hook you up with any kind of day trip or experience you are looking for. We met others who come back year after year. I'll dream of a return trip.Kathy
Cozy hotel with nice view
The hotel is located a in massa lubrense, which is a place away from the principal city, so is better if you arrived by car. Also, the place is not easy to find. There are few restaurants, stores, markets nor bars in the surroundings. There is a beach near to the hotel, where you can take boat trips to the important local atractions, such as costa d'amalfi and capri island. Another good thing is the nice view you have from the hotel. The hotel room was comfortable, but there was no wi-fi service. The restaurant had excellent food. All the staff were very friendlyAndreas Ulate
The Best kept Secret on the Amalfi Coast!
We spent 6 amazing days at Casale Villarena. We were a family of 4 with 2 active 14 year old twins. We did not have any expectations when we arrived and everything was perfect ! Guglielmo and his staff provided a professional atmosphere and the service was 5 star. They arranged for us to be picked up at the Sorrento train station which was a lifesaver after taking the local train from Naples; Next time we would take a taxi from Naples to shorten the journey. We felt relaxed as soon as we walked on the property. The property was organized so that you could sit outside an have your own privacy. The pool area was comfortable with enough lounge chairs for everyone. The rooms were well appointed with a pretty view of the bay. The kitchen was a bonus although we did not use it to its full potential. The staff arranged all our excursions that were beyond any expectations! Our first outing was a hike to Jeranto Bay with a guide from a society who protected the land and bay. She was very knowledgeable about the history and surroundings. As well, what their society had done to protect the natural surroundings. Once we had a swim in the turquoise bay, we had an amazing lunch overlooking the bay. Our second outing, was kayaking along the coast with SUD kayaking. Matteo was our guide. We left from a bay a few minutes away and we instancing swept away with the beauty of the sea, steep cliffs and local fishing coves. We stopped at a cove and went swimming and my 14 year old twins enjoyed jumping from the rocks. We went to Pompeii and Vesuvius with driver and guide for Pompeii. The trip was arranged by Casale Villarana and again did not disappoint. Pompeii is a once in a life time experience that is a must see. We went to Positano for the day with Guglielmo. What a perfect end to our trip. The staffed packed our lunch for the boat and we form Marina Cantone in a hired boat. Guglielmo was the perfect host and showed us the natural beauty of the coastline, amazing beached to swim at and a visit to Positano. After seeing Positano, I was glad we were staying in Nerano away from the tourists. Can't wait to back for another vacation sometime soon!Liz
Wish we could have stayed longer!!!”
My sister and I picked this place for one leg of our Amalfi Coast vacation. We only stayed 4 nights at Casale Villarena, but knowing now what we didn't know then, this is a great place to serve as a peaceful and oh so beautiful base for travel along the Sorrentine Peninsula as well as the Amalfi Coast. It was so much fun!!! The hosts, Guglielmo and Mariateresa were so helpful with everything. I would recommend contacting them with your sightseeing "to do" list and let them plan your excursions. We were not so organized. The location is pretty remote, so if you don't have a car, you will need to arrange for transportation. The beach is walking distance, and full service. Guglielmo arranged a FANTASTIC day trip to Capri with Mario for just our party of six. It was relaxing and we got to see everything (the caves and glorious views of the island from the boat) as well as time to explore the island. Even after we left Nerano for Salerno, Guglielmo continued to help us enjoy our vacation by arranging a top notch, expert guide, Andrea, for our day at Pompeii. The food at Casale Villarena is EXCELLENT. The attention to detail was greatly appreciated. I mentioned in passing that I do not eat cheese, and thereafter, my menu was modified to replace cheese with special non-cheese dishes. Nice touch. We booked the cooking class, and that was a really fun activity. We loved our stay at Casale Villarena. I would recommend this place without hesitation!!!Maureen & Mark
