  • ...with Nerano, the villa and the owner. Casale Villarena is tucked away in the hills of Nerano on the Sorrento Peninsula. I was intially disappointed that the villa was 18 km away from Sorrento but quickly realized that being away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento was a much better way to enjoy this part of Italy. The apartment in the villa was beautifully decorated, fully equipped with kitchen essentials, and had a wonderful patio with a breathtaking view. Two small markets across the street provided everything you would desire to eat and drink. A pool nestled amongst the lemon trees is refereshing after a daytrip and is accessible at all times. The villa is about a 15 minute walk from the beach and marina. From here you can take trips to Amalfi, Positano and Capri (highly recommend it!), so there is no need to go to Sorrento. Arrangments for the tours can be made through the villa. Some restaurants and shops line the beach area. Enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the sea and people watching! The owner, Guglielmo, is charming and helpful. He is more than willing to sit and chat, arrange day trips, provide some local history and offer multiple glasses of his homemade limoncello. Casale Villarena is an excellent value, a beautiful property and a wonderful place to spend your time when you want to visit the Sorrento Peninsula. It is a must!

There is no 'restaurant' on site but if you are lucky Rosa will cook you an Italian meal that you will never find in a restaurant. We were lucky to experience her cooking talents two nights in a row and I would have to say it was some of the best food I have ever had! Don't forget to taste some of the products from the owner's farm - the lemon marmalade is wonderful and the wine - bella! The villa is about a 15 minute walk from the beach and marina. • Loved Casale Villarena

We have just spent 2 weeks at the Casale Villarena and had a wonderful time, The people there were very friendly and helpful and our apartment was beautiful and very spacious, with great sea views from the terrace. Nerano is a quiet place, with a couple of good grocery shops and a small bar. It is well situated for trips to all the sites of the Amalfi coast and the Bay of Naples, including Capri. There is a good beach nearby (20 mins walk) at Marina del Cantone, where there are good restaurants (expensive) and a nice bar and gelateria. Boat trips to Capri, and Amalfi and Positano leave from there - these were excellent. HIRING A CAR is probably essential and the driving was fun once you get into the Italian style. We were so busy seeing all the sites that we didn't get the chance to use the pool, but it looked great and is set in lovely gardens with lemon trees. Our little son (1 year) loved his stay and was made to feel very welcome. You feel like you are really in Italy even though you are near some of the major tourist sites. We enjoyed some great walks around the Sorrentine peninsula including some right from the door of the Casale. It was a great place to stay.

  • A magical break

I can't express what a wonderful time we had staying here. Our host Guglielmo has made the most of this superb location and played the perfect line between being attentive to our needs and letting us discover this wonderful and unspoilt corner of Italy ourselves. Eveything you could need is on your doorstep and even in March, with the season yet to begin, there was plenty to keep us entertained from one amzing meal to the next and from one amzing view to the next !
